Course Overview
Hi everyone. My name is Barry Luijbregts, and welcome to my course, Microsoft Azure Cognitive Services: The Big Picture. I am an independent software developer and architect with a passion for the cloud. Nowadays, applications need to more intelligent and do things like understand text, analyze images, and recommend purchases. These things are hard to create by yourself. Azure Cognitive Services provides these capabilities and more, and does all the heavy lifting for you. Some of the major topics that we will cover include why you should use Azure Cognitive Services, what they are and what they can do for you, and how to work with them. By this end of this course, you'll have a solid understanding of what Azure Cognitive Services are, why you should use them, and how to work with them. You do not need any specific knowledge before beginning this course. I hope you'll join me on this journey to learn about Azure Cognitive Services with the Microsoft Azure Cognitive Services: The Big Picture course, here at Pluralsight.

Solving Problems with Azure Cognitive Services
Hi, and welcome to this Big Picture course about the Azure Cognitive Services. I'm Barry, and I'm an independent software architect and developer with a passion for the cloud. You can find me on Twitter @AzureBarry and at azurebarry. com. I've also created a lot of other Pluralsight courses, many of them about Microsoft Azure. In this course, you'll get an overview of what the Azure Cognitive Services are, which problems they can solve for you, and what capabilities they have. After this course, you can dive in deeper with courses that explain specific Cognitive Services and how to use them. And in this first module, I'll explain which problems Azure Cognitive Services solve. In order to explain which problems Azure Cognitive Services can solve for you, I must create some context. This involves explaining what some of the hyped-up terms like artificial intelligence and deep learning mean. And then we'll briefly go into what machine learning is. This will lead us to the challenges that can be solved by Azure Cognitive Services. And from there, I'll introduce the Azure Cognitive Services and briefly touch on what they are and which problems they can solve for you. This module explains why you should care about the Azure Cognitive Services. The other modules will go into more details about what the Azure Cognitive Services are and how to use them.

An Overview of the Azure Cognitive Services
In this module, we are going to take a look at the Azure Cognitive Services. The previous module was the why of the course, this module is the what, and the module after this is shows you the how. This module will teach you what Azure Cognitive Services are. We'll do that by first looking at the competitive landscape of Cognitive Services. Microsoft is just one vendor; other vendors offer similar products. Then we'll look at that service catalog, which contains all of the Cognitive Services. For each of them I'll tell you briefly what it can do for you. After that, we'll go over some of the key characteristics of the Cognitive Services, like service level agreement, pricing, and scaling. Ready? Let's dive in.

Working with the Azure Cognitive Services
You've seen why you should choose Azure Cognitive Services and what they are. In this final module of the course, you'll learn how to work with the Cognitive Services. In this module, you'll learn the two different ways that you can use to work with the Azure Cognitive Services. There is a way of working with the services that come with predefined Microsoft data and with a predefined model, and there is a slightly different way of working with the services that require your custom data and machine learning model. I'll illustrate these ways with two simple demos so that you can get a feeling for what working with these services looks like. And finally, we'll wrap up the module and I'll give you some direction of what resources you can use to go deeper with Cognitive Services.
