Course Overview
Hi everyone. My name is Joel Berg, and welcome to my course, Essential Effects in VFX and Animation. I'm a Vancouver-based effects artist and freelancer previously from studios such as MPC and Prime Focus, and have experience on many award-winning films. No matter if you're an animator, lighter, modeler or beginner artist, knowing a little bit of effects is very useful. These are some of the most common effects I've used in production hundreds of times on award-winning shows, and it can all be created in under 30 minutes. We will create a variety of atmospheric effects that are commonly combined together in a final shot in production, such as volume fog, rain, speed effects, and heat haze. We will also create some interior effects like candles and rigs and atmospheric dust. You'll also learn how to efficiently render these effects and how they work together in compositing. When more elaborate setups fail, you can always fall back on these effects in a pinch and can end up saving the day. These techniques can be used with any version of Maya, and we will be rendering them with a combination of all renderers. When starting this course, you should have a basic knowledge of Maya and an understanding of Dynamics. So, let's get started and create some effects.
